Accessibility Audit for SaaS Companies

Accessibility is no longer optional for SaaS companies.

With the EU Accessibility Act, ADA, AODA, and WCAG 2.1 requirements, digital products need to meet accessibility standards to avoid legal risk, expand market reach, and support enterprise sales.

I help SaaS teams identify accessibility issues, fix them efficiently, and build long-term accessibility practices. Improving accessibility usually means improving user experience for all users, not just users with specific disability.

Why Accessibility Matters for SaaS Companies

SaaS products rely on clean workflows, data visualization, dashboards, forms, and complex UI components — all of which are common sources of accessibility issues.

An accessibility audit helps you:

  • Meet WCAG 2.1 AA, ADA, AODA, and EU Accessibility Act requirements many enterprise clients now ask for accessibility proof before signing a contract.
  • Reduce legal risk non-compliance can lead to complaints, audits, and costly remediation.
  • Improve usability for all users: accessibility improvements often reduce friction and improve UX for everyone.
  • Strengthen your design system: fix once → scale everywhere.
  • Accelerate development: a clear, actionable remediation plan saves hours of guessing for developers.
  • Reduce accessibility debt before it becomes expensive, and integrate accessibility into your workflow

What’s Included in the SaaS Accessibility Audit

Accessibility digs into all areas of digital products - from accessible color scheme, spacing, valid HTML markup, interactions, error handing, keyboard navigation and screen reader compatibility; to point out main areas.

1. Full WCAG 2.1 (or 2.2) A & AA level Accessibility Audit

A detailed manual and automated review of:

  • Navigation & structure
  • Dashboards
  • Data tables
  • Forms & validation
  • Buttons, links, and interactive elements
  • Typography and color contrast
  • Modals, drawers, popovers
  • Charts & visualizations
  • Keyboard interaction
  • Mobile & responsive behavior
  • Screen reader compatibility (VoiceOver)

I mostly use manual review (with the help of automation tools), as only this way I can inspect the code myself and see if something is meeting the requirements. Automated tools serve more as a secondary check, and they often gives false positives or negatives for criteria.

Deliverables:

  • List of accessibility issues
  • WCAG reference for each
  • Technical or design recommendations
  • Optional: Severity level
  • Optional: Estimated load to fix

2. Design System & Component Review

If you use a design system (custom or library):

  • Evaluation of core components
  • Accessibility gaps identification
  • Guidelines for tokens, states, focus indicators, semantics
  • Recommendations for designers & developers

This ensures accessibility scales across your entire product.

3. Developer Remediation Plan

Not just “what’s wrong” — but how to fix it.

Includes:

  • Step-by-step implementation suggestions
  • Code examples where relevant
  • Prioritized list: Critical → Low
  • Clear expected outcomes
  • Optional support during remediation
  • Optional re-test after fixes

FAQ

We want to improve the accessibility but don't know where to start
Accessibility audit (without VPAT / ACR) is a good start. You'll get a list of accessibility issues and compliance points which will make clear where you stand and where to go next.
Do you test accessibility of whole digital product?
I test the product pages/flows specified initially. Those are tested for all WCAG criteria of chosen version including full user flows, interactive components, forms, navigation, contrast, screen reader, etc.
Can you help with how to fix accessibility issues?
Yes, with accessibility audit you'll not only receive the checklist of compliance criteria, but also technical or design recommendation on how to fix it. If you want more guidance or to re-check the implementation, you can book additional consultation, I offer design, front-end, and process guidance.
